Onion Epidermal Cells
Take care to obtain a single layer of cells; avoid having the cells fold into several layers.
Try staining with iodine (I2KI) to observe transparent structures in the cell.
Elodea (or Cabomba, an aquatic plant) p. 50
Observe structures such as cell wall, nucleus, vacuole, chloroplasts.
Estimate
cell size
in µm.
(See Microscope lab, p. 45 on estimating sizes
of specimens under a microscope.)
You may see organelles moving along cytoskeleton: cytoplasmic streaming:
Human Epithelial Cells
Try staining with methylene blue.

These single-celled eukaryotes live in fresh (hypotonic) water.
Use methyl cellulose to immobilize.
